Anyone who grew up with an NES or SNES will likely have fond memories of the Castlevania series. Once a staple in gaming, it has since fallen out of popularity in recent years, despite remaining as one of the most cherished franchises in history. While we have seen some interesting takes on the series in recent years with Lords of Shadow, a new Netflix show is looking to take the mantle.
Castlevania the animated series will debut on Netflix this year. We are yet to get any specific dates but it sounds as though there are at least two, 4-part seasons on the way, with the first of which hitting the streaming service later this year. Warren Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert, and Adi Shankar off Dredd and The Grey fame will be helming the show. Ellis will be penning the series but there are no hard details on which era (or specific titles) he will source its material from.
The official description of the show suggests we will be following the Belmont clan in an attempt to save Europe from the clutches of Vlad Dracula Tepe. That sounds like some classic Castlevania if you ask me. A couple years ago when the first details (rumors) hit the net, Adi Shankar hinted the show would be based on Castlevania 3, but again, there’s no official word.
And here’s your Netflix February 2017 Preview: Finding Dory, The Chronicals of Narnia, Magic Mike, even more on the way!
