Amazon always has education discounts and free trial offers for its Prime service, but it’s not often that the online retailer lets anyone sign up for less than the usual $99 per year. Today Amazon is doing just that. Any Amazon customer who signs up for a new Prime account will only pay $72 for the first year, which translates into a savings of 27%.
While the terms of the promo state that only new sign ups are eligible for the discounted rate, there is a workaround for existing members. First, turn off auto renew for your current Prime membership. Next, buy a gift Prime membership for $72 and have it sent to your email address. Finally, wait until your current membership lapses, and then apply the gift membership code to your account. Voila!

Thank you. I only have two months left on my membership so this is fantastic news. I did the work around as you have explained, and received the prime membership (renewal), though didn’t see any codes, just that I got a gift of the prime membership, using the same email I use for Amazon. When I clicked on the “start enjoying prime” it forwards me to the Amazon page and states that I’m a member already and offers me to switch the Amazon gift card. Have I done something wrong?
How do you turn off auto-renew? I only see “end Membership” in my settings
Selecting “End Membership” is to turn off the auto-renewal function. After that step is where I get confused… perhaps I’ll find out when the membership ends. Good luck!
