Leading up to the NCAA’s March Madness, Pizza Hut is geared up to make its debut in the sneaker culture’s iconic return. Announced today, Pizza Hut will be giving away a few select pairs of its custom “Pie Top” sneakers. Aside from looks, what makes these high-top sneakers noteworthy is that owners will be able to order pizza right from the shoe. In conjunction with the sneakers launch from March into April Pizza Hut will be offering a $7.99 promotional pricing on a large, two-topping pizza. More below.
The Pie Tops are a product built in conjunction with custom sneaker designer Dominic Chambrone (aka @theshoesurgeon). According to AdAge, Pizza Hut’s fourth-quarter sales fell 4% and the company has been pushing to find ways to bolster sales. Pizza Hut will be giving away the 64 custom pairs of the Bluetooth-enabled sneakers out to a select group of influencers and media.
Lucky Pizza Hut super fans may actually receive a pair as well. David Daniels, Pizza Hut’s VP of advertising and media, shared that “…we’ve reserved some for the opportunity for a select few Pizza Hut super fans to receive a pair of these custom Pie Top high-top tennis shoes.” While not everyone will receive them, fans of NCAA March Madness *will* be seeing them throughout the month. Daniels explained, “We’re planning to feature the pie tops with on-air talent.”
