Microsoft’s Surface Studio is a high-end, high-priced all-in-one computer that has an absolutely beautiful design. But, for those who don’t want to spring for the high-priced Surface Studio, there’s always the Surface Pro. Being a portable tablet, this device features similar styling to the Surface Studio but at a fraction of the cost, though it’s a tablet and not desktop.
Kensington, a long-trusted accessory manufacturer, recently released the SD7000 Dual 4K Surface Pro Docking Station that essentially makes your Surface Pro into a Surface Studio when at your desk. With multiple port options like USB, Ethernet, HDMI, DisplayPort, and more, this is a great all-in-one docking solution for your Surface Pro when at a desk.
This docking station is designed for professionals or end-users alike who want a nice place to store their Surface Pro when not in-use and to get more functionality out of it while at a desk.
Until now, there haven’t been any great docking solutions for the Surface Pro line. Microsoft offers its dock, but that just plugs into the Surface Pro like a charger and still treats the device as a tablet.
When you arrive home, just stick your Surface Pro into the docking station and it instantly will become powered with all outputs. You’ll be able to plug in regular USB devices, Ethernet, and hook up two external 4K monitors for even greater productivity.
There’s even a USB-C port that Microsoft still doesn’t include with the regular Surface Pro (maybe one day). That’s great for connecting universal accessories like adapters and devices that rely on the new standard.
This is the perfect tool to use either at work or home. It makes a great point of sale for a business and a perfect place to both draw or type at your desk.
I’d personally love this as it provides an easy way to keep the Surface Pro charged at home and gives the perfect angle for having it next to a regular monitor. Because the Surface Pro is on an adjustable arm, you can easily change the height or angle of the display to match whatever you need.
The SD7000 4K Surface Pro Docking Station is said to have a price tag of $299.99, with the lock module running an additional $30. Official release dates haven’t been announced, but Kensington is showing off this dock at Microsoft’s events this month, so a release after that is to be expected.
