Oni Press’s first-of-its-kind box set tribute comes as a celebration of 20 years of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, an Eisner Award-winning, New York Times-bestselling graphic novel epic that inspired both the popular live-action movie, directed by Edgar Wright, as well as the upcoming Netflix anime series, which will begin streaming in North America starting November 17.
If you have never heard of Scott Pilgrim – which is rare because of its elevation within the pop-culture world since the star-studded live-action movie achieved cult status – at its core, it’s the story of a young bassist for the Toronto garage-rock band, Sex Bob-Omb, meeting a young woman by the name of Ramona. After he convinces her to go on a date with him, he discovers that he must fight and defeat her seven evil exes if he hopes to date her.
Scott Pilgrim began as a series of six digest-sized black-and-white volumes written and drawn by Canadian cartoonist Bryan Lee O’Malley and released by Portland-based publisher Oni Press between August 2004 and July 2010.
And now, with the 20th anniversary of the first volume printing fast approaching, the original series is being rereleased in new colored volumes, featuring new art by Bryan Lee O’Malley himself, with loads of bonuses for its fans. Now available for pre-order, the Scott Pilgrim 20th Anniversary Color Hardcover Box Set will begin shipping on July 9, 2024.
