Amazon is offering a rare discount on the LEGO Ideas Typewriter set for $199.99 shipped. Normally fetching $250 most of the time, it wasn’t until July that we first saw it discounted to $238 for a very short period, with the few scratches on its price tag since never falling lower than $244. Writers, readers, and builders alike are getting a great chance to add it to their collections today though, with a solid $50 markdown that gives you the best rate we have seen since it first premiered over three years ago.
This display-worthy typewriter set stacks up to 2,079 pieces and once completed, sports an olive green exterior that calls to mind the old-school models that were a staple of life in the 1950s. Its retro appearance also comes complemented with 43 versions (each in a different language) of a copy of a letter written and signed by the chairman of the LEGO Group, Thomas Kirk Kristiansen. There’s a full lineup of exclusive QWERTY keys too, and even packs in some added functionality in the form of a simulated experience of typing the keys and watching its type bar activate, mimicking the real-life thing (though sadly you can’t actually use it to type up your next manuscript).
