Amazon just knocked $150 off Apple’s AirPods Max, now $395 while new USB-C sets start from $500

Much like we saw just before the July Prime Day event, Amazon is now offering Apple’s AirPods Max down at $394.99 shipped. We are talking about the regularly $549 Lightning set that has now been replaced by the newer models with USB-C and some fresh colorways, but they are identical otherwise and now $150 less. Today’s deal comes within a couple bucks of the lowest price we have tracked on most colors of Apple’s now previous-generation flagship over-ear headphones. 

Apple updated its AirPods Max with some new paint jobs and a USB-C port at last month’s Glowtime event. They are very much not the AirPods Max 2 many folks were hoping for, and it is nice to see Apple continue its move away from Lightning connections, but the latest AirPods Max are essentially the same as the Lightning model we are featuring on sale here today otherwise. 

I can, much like my colleague Zac Hall detailed recently, very much appreciate the move from the Space Gray colorway to the Midnight treatment, but it’s still not the Space Black I was hoping for and, at least for me, not worth paying an extra $150. While we might see price drops on the newer USB-C sets during the upcoming fall Prime Day, it is very unlikely they fall down to the $400 range – they are currently seeing some very light deals at Amazon starting from $535.99 in purple, $541 in Midnight, and a touch more in the other new colorways.

The original Lighting set now seeing a deep $150 price drop are H1-powered active noise-cancelling headphones that have always sounded pretty great to my ears.
