Official Lightning Apple Magic Keyboard is otherwise identical to the new USB-C model, now down at a rare $79

Amazon is now offering the Apple Magic Keyboard at $79 shipped. While it’s not the new USB-C model we have all been waiting on for years at this point, in the end the only real difference is the cable you use to charge it and most folks have a Lightning connector laying around already. Regularly $99, this is a straight up 20% price drop and a relatively rare one at that. 

The new USB-C model is still sitting up at the full $99 list price and hasn’t seen any price drops since release. While for some, dropping the extra $20 to finally be rid of those Lightning cables is a worthy trade-off, a deal is a deal and these keyboards are otherwise the same. 

It is also worth noting that the deal we have here today is on the base model, not the one with Touch ID tech – that one will run you $149. I, for one, never use the Touch ID anyway on my Mac, but some folks certainly do so we just wanted to make sure we were clear here. 

If you just scooped up a new M4 Mac mini or are just in need of a fresh new Apple typer for your existing setup, deals on the first-party decks don’t come around nearly as often as we would hope. The Lightning model has been around for a while now but really only sees a couple price drops per year at best and took roughly a year after release before it saw any notable discounts – this can also give you a good idea of how often one might expect to see the new USB-C model go on sale.
