Whether you’re heading back to school or just looking to upgrade your MacBook, the summer deals are flying right now on Apple’s latest and most affordable current-generation M4 models. As we detailed recently, with the particularly notable discounts we are tracking on the current lineup right now, this week is delivering the very best MacBook deals of the year, Prime Day included, on the more affordable mid-range models – basically everything but the M4 Pro and M4 Max Pros. While there’s nothing quite like landing a new M4 MacBook Air that just launched not 5 months ago down at $799, for me personally, the 24GB Air at $200 off is where it’s at.

Sure, for many folks (myself included), the 16GB of RAM on the base model at $799 will do just fine. If you’re just getting some work done, be it at school or the office, it is well powerful enough for most average word processing, web browsing, and video conferencing tasks, and even for some of the more involved apps you might be making use of.

The 256GB of storage on the base models leaves a bit to be desired for me, but you can always just leverage some external storage and the upgraded 16GB/512GB model is also $200 off right now as well.

All of that said, and despite the fact that the storage options are far less of a concern for me than the RAM, it is really the 24GB/512GB model that seems to be the best investment for me – it has also become increasingly more popular among readers this generation too.

Again, I can certainly make do with the 16GB of RAM, but everything is just a little more snappy when the going gets tough – when I have way too many tabs open, or I’m multitasking on several projects with heavy spreadsheets and presentation files with graphics, with Pixelmator running the whole time, and so on and so forth.

It, as I have mentioned previously more than a few times, also feels like a more future proof investment. There is after all a reason the base RAM count does, albeit slowly, keep going up, and the 24GB just makes it feel like the machine will last much longer – maybe even years longer – than the 8GB and 16GB models used to for me.

Either way, the best deals to date are now ready and waiting across the M4 MacBook Air lineup, with this week’s sale delivering the very first chance to grab any configuration in any color at $200 off the list price.
