While we have seen more than a few chances to save on the latest model Kindle Paperwhite, the Scribe, and even the new Colorsoft, deals on the current-generation base model Amazon Kindle have been rare at best. Regularly $110 and now the most affordable model in the latest lineup, the 16GB Kindle is marked down to $89.99 shipped in both the Matcha green and black colorways.

Again, this might not seem like a huge deal or anything, but this model has mostly held strong at full price since its release last fall, save for a couple special event prices.

Today’s deal is on par with last year’s Black Friday price and comes within $5 of the all-time low we featured for Prime Day at the beginning of July. This was already the most affordable current-gen model in the lineup, and is now even more so.

Amazon says this is the “lightest and most compact Kindle” it makes. It lands with a few quality of life improvements over the previous model as well, including a “brighter front light at max setting, higher contrast ratio and faster page turns for an enhanced reading experience.”

Other notable features include the 6-inch glare-free display, adjustable front light, and dark mode alongside 6 weeks of battery life, and 16GB of onboard storage that can carry “thousands of books, magazines, and comics” anywhere you go.

Dive into our launch coverage for a closer look at all of the latest Kindle releases.
