New LEGO SMART Brick Star Wars sets still live at Amazon, get in there before they sell out

As you likely already saw, LEGO unveiled the biggest innovation in brick building, maybe, ever this week, and the new SMART Play sets are now available for pre-order at Amazon – Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter at $70, Red Five X-wing at $90, and the Throne Room Duel & A-Wing at $160. You might want to get in there before they sell out.

LEGO SMART Play comes to a galaxy far, far away.

We already featured the new LEGO SMART Bricks, Tags, and Minifigures this week, but we wanted to touch down this morning to make sure folks who had a busy week were aware the first of the new SMART Play sets were up for grabs in case things start to sell out. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time a new LEGO set sells out well ahead of release and we are talking about one of the more exciting/interesting announcements in tech here (for some).

  • Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter $70
    • 743 pieces
    • Comes with a Smart Brick, Smart Play Darth Vader minifigure, Smart Play Tag
  • Red Five X-wing $90
    • 584 pieces
    • Comes with a Smart Brick, Smart Play minifigs (Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia) and 5 Smart Play tags
  • Throne Room + A-wing $160
    • 962 pieces
    • Comes with a Smart Brick, 3 Smart Play minifigs (Like Skywalker, Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader), 5 Smart Play tags

For more information on what exactly the new LEGO SMART Play system actually is, our explainer post right here delivers the details. The short form takeaway is that you’re looking at an all-new tech-laden 2×4 SMART Brick that lands compatible with all of your traditional LEGO bricks. But this one is loaded with a speaker and sensors and wireless charging – it understands where Minifigures are and delivers custom-tailored sounds for each of them while the SMART Tags “help the SMART Brick unlock sounds, mini-games, even secret missions filled with hilarious Easter eggs to keep players guessing!”

For example, with the new TIE Fighter set above, you can place the “SMART Brick on the SMART Tag in the starfighter for motion-activated engine sounds and lights, laser-shooting, refueling and repair sounds.” You can also “bring SMART Darth Vader to life with the SMART Brick for immersive play, triggering reactions to situations he experiences.”
