There’s a deal floating around right now that’s starting to gain some traction – the previous-generation Apple AirPods 3 down at $99 via Walmart. This set series a regular price at $170 from places like Best Buy still, often times drops into the $130 range, and is now at one of the lowest prices we have tracked. The question is, do you want to spend $99 on the 3rd generation AirPods with a Lightning case and the older chip when both the AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2 are at the best prices of the year right now?

Some folks swear by the previous generation AirPods – they just fit better or are just a more budget-conscious investment. Now you can’t really argue with the former, but with the deals floating around on the newer sets, they aren’t really a less pricey option anymore.

The new base model AirPods 4 are still sitting at the new $99.99 shipped Amazon all-time low – essentially the same price as the AirPods 3 deal going around right now. The base model AirPods 4 don’t have ANC – the ANC set is marked down to $148.99 at the moment – but neither do the AirPods 3. So you either just want another set of 3rd gens because you love the fit or seriously value that $1 in savings – the AirPods 4 have a more modern USB-C charging case and the H2 chip.

Another thing to keep in mind here is the lauded AirPods Pro 2. You will have to drop an additional $69 to score these bad boys right now, but we are talking about the regularly $249 flagship Apple in-ear listening experience with all of the modern fixings, all of the new 2024 software-based updates, the MagSafe USB-C charging case, and some, if you ask me, wonderful ANC action – all of the details you need on the new features are right here

You can consider this a bit of a PSA. If you’re looking to secure a new set of Apple buds this month, the deals are flying on the latest models and it might not be worth taking the $99 bait on the 3rd Gen set via Walmart right now.

Apple’s AirPods 4 just hit the best Amazon price ever at $100 shipped

AirPods Pro 2 drop again to best price in months at $169 shipped

AirPods Pro 2 come with 2-years of AppleCare+ down at $180 via Costco

AirPods 4 features:

  • Voice Isolation improves the quality of calls in loud conditions. Using advanced computational audio, it reduces background noise while isolating and clarifying the sound of your voice for whomever you’re speaking to.
  • AirPods 4 have been redesigned for exceptional all-day comfort and greater stability. With a refined contour, shorter stem, and quick-press controls for music or calls.
  • AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation help reduce outside noise before it reaches your ears, so you can immerse yourself in what you’re listening to.
  • The powerful H2 chip comes to AirPods 4. Adaptive Audio seamlessly blends ANC and Transparency mode — which lets you comfortably hear and interact with the world around you exactly as it sounds — to provide the best listening experience in any environment. And when you’re speaking with someone nearby, Conversation Awareness automatically lowers the volume of what’s playing.
