PBS now has an HDMI Streaming Stick w/ Remote just for Kids

As much as we try to keep our kids away from the TV set, it’s pretty inevitable that both you and your child will get tired and need to take a load off eventually. And when that happens, you’ll want to give them access to the most educational shows and protect them from mature content they definitely don’t need exposure to. The trusted TV station PBS Kids now offers its own HDMI streamer capable of providing more than 100 hours of offline viewing from its 16GB of storage.

It has Wi-Fi connectivity, but the big feature here is that you can take your kids shows and games to anyone’s TV without the need for an internet connection.

It’s already been dubbed “the world’s first and only kid-safe television streaming stick” and it is definitely feature-rich with a cool design. The race car-shaped streaming adapter plugs right into your TV’s HDMI port (extender provided if needed) and the included kid-friendly remote control can be used to immediately start playing videos, games and more all controlled by your 2-6 year old. The remote is Bluetooth, so your child doesn’t have to aim directly at the green car (more color options coming in June) to get good clicks in and it’s sized to fit small hands.

Your child will enjoy exclusive content like sing-alongs with WordGirl, Daniel Tiger, Odd Squad and more from the network. You can even plug in your own videos via the microSD card slot and watch them from the main menu. With continuous content updates, your child will have the latest episodes and other games and such from his or her favorite PBS Kids characters. When there is available Wi-Fi, your child also gets access to PBS Kids TV streaming.

This is definitely a great idea for the cord-cutting kid in all of us. However, at this price you could easily just give your child the family tablet with the PBS app and save some money there. The PBS Plug & Play is available now only at Walmart starting today for $59.99, but will be in stores by May 24th. Other retailers will carry the device later this year and hopefully we will see it come down in price.
