Minimalist wallets have been getting increasingly popular, at least among young adults and college students. I personally disliked the bulky square in my pocket, and recently picked up something that carries about 3 cards and some cash. In addition, I’ve seen that smart cards are trying to get popular, and I see the potential.
Let’s dive into details of a new smart card called Fuze by tech startup BrillianT, which has been well over fully-funded on Indiegogo. Briefly put, it’s a card that’s as thin as regular credit cards that can hold up to 30 different cards onto it. This will change the size of your wallet from the average 1-2 inches thick, to just 0.03 inches.
Not only does Fuze Card have an e-paper mini screen on the front, but it even includes 3 buttons for different purposes. The first is a power button, and the others allow for an easy card selection experience. See your cards displayed clearly along with each number and barcode, and use it for 30 days before needing to charge again.
Best of all, it works just like any regular card. The smartphone app for iOS and Android allows you to take pictures of cards or even swipe them into the system. Most credit, debit, and gift cards should be seamlessly identified. In addition, ID, membership, and OTP cards are meant to be compatible as well.

A few extra features are notable in Fuze Card. If you ever find yourself in a sticky situation, you can easily wipe the data off of your card remotely. Similarly, it includes a location tracking feature just in case the card is misplaced while traveling or even at home. A notification will be sent if you reach a certain distance away from your card. A handy portable power bank is included, and holds 1 extra charge for travel.
Now, we’ve seen other cards like Fuze over the past few years. Unfortunately Coin has shut down, Plastc has gone out of business, and it seems that Swyp is now the only competitor. BrillianT says that Fuze outperforms all other cards like it, but overall it definitely seems like the same idea. Its campaign appears to be doing well, but time will tell if they pull it off in the end.
Fuze Card is available for pre-order on Indiegogo for $89, or $129 to include the security chip. Includes a portable charger and an e-reader. There’s also an option to get both for $169, and you’ll get the regular card in July and the chip-enabled card by January 2018.
