Nintendo has a long history of designs that stand the test of time and the company’s retro design especially hold a soft spot in the eyes of gaming fans. Today Colorware has revealed a new custom set of Joy Cons for the Switch designed to the tune of a classic Nintendo console and they’re absolutely gorgeous.
Colorware is no stranger to producing custom retro versions of various products as we’ve seen with Apple’s Macbook, but there’s definitely something special with this new Joy Con design. The light gray color contrasted by black and red accents is just like the NES controllers of old, but ready to go with the company’s latest system.
In 1985 Nintendo revolutionized the home entertainment industry by releasing the Nintendo Entertainment System. The NES took a niche hobby and brought it into everyone’s living room. ColorWare is bringing back these memories with the release of our limited Joy Con Classic controllers. Available for a limited time only.
Like the custom Colorware Joy Cons I reviewed a couple of months ago, the Joy Con Classic is simply a typical set of Joy Cons but with a custom and very precise paint job over top. This time even the buttons and Straps have been styled to match that of the NES look. It’s fantastic, but it’s going to cost you quite a bit.
Colorware is asking $199 for a set of Joy Con Classics. That’s a hefty $120 jump over a pair of Joy Cons at retail, but if you’re a diehard Nintendo fan, you’ll probably want to give these a look regardless. The first 25 units sold will include a number of authenticity printed on the rear as well. While more than 25 will be sold in total, you’ll need to act soon if you want to get a pair.
