Nintendo introduces nostalgic new NES look for 3DS XL handheld

Nintendo just recently introduced us to the new 3DS handhelds which come with a host of new additions like a second analog stick, new shoulder buttons and replaceable face plates. And now the company has unveiled a series of new themed 3DS consoles including two Super Smash Bros. variations (red and blue), a blue Persona Q version and one that is sure to strike a nostalgic chord in many of us:

The new NES Edition Nintendo 3DS XL handheld boasts a nostalgic look to anyone familiar with the roots of Nintendo’s home gaming consoles. The hardware itself is designed to look like an old school NES controller on the exterior with matching D-pad and face buttons inside. Nintendo has also created a special edition box for the classic 3DS in the style of the original NES console, look-alike RCA inputs and all.

The GameStop exclusive NES Edition Nintendo 3DS XL will release Oct. 10 at a suggested retail price of $199.99, and is already availble for pre order at GameStop.

The red and blue Smash Bros. version, which is adorned by a number of the upcoming game’s characters, will launch Sept. 19th nationwide in preparation for the October 3rd launch date of Super Smash Bros. The Persona Q edition will come available around November 25th in honor of the launch of Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth. Both models are currently available for pre-order at Best Buy and hold a suggested retail price of $199.99.
