The Homeboy cam simplifies home surveillance with extended battery life and magnetic mounting

Unlike many of the currently available smart home security options out there, the new Homeboy camera offers a simplified take on home surveillance in a tiny all-in-one system. It is a completely wireless solution that requires no additional hardware, taps right into your home WiFi network and offers simple mobile device monitoring.

Along with a built-in mounting system and an impressive battery life, Homeboy has a number of other security features, seamless integration with other smart home products and full functionality with no subscription fees. More details below:

Homeboy has a built-in motion sensor as well as basic night vision and an audible alarm for when it detects an intruder. The accompanying smartphone app doesn’t provide 24 hour viewing, but will send a live feed to your device when the motion sensor is tripped. Using GPS data on your smartphone, its smart “geo-fence” technology automatically disarms and arms the system as you’re coming and going.

Homeboy also uses a group system which allows for a number of users (family and friends) to access the feed and disarm the audible alarm if needed. The system will store recordings for a month for free, and users can transfer them to other storage mediums if they so choose.

The device comes with a small base you can attach anywhere you want to mount the tiny camera. Homeboy then magnetically snaps to the base making it easy to take down for charging or repositioning. But that won’t happen very often, as Homeboy only needs to be recharged every 3 months (or longer).

It also plays nice with many of the major smart home items on the market. You can “arm your system with a Belkin WeMo switch, trigger your camera when your Nest Protect detects smoke, set your Philips Hue light to turn red when motion is detected, and much more.” By early 2015, Homeboy owners will have extended, subscription free “professional monitoring” options made available as well.

The mini Homeboy surveillance camera is available today on the official site for a special introductory price of $149.99. It will begin shipping on November 1st.
