Google has yet to make an official announcement about this, but the Mountain View company has today launched an Android Pay Rewards promotion called “Tap 10,” offering Google Play music downloads and a free Chromecast to Android Pay users when they use their phone to pay…

“Ready! Set! Tap! Use Android Pay in store 10 times by Feb. 29 to score 3 free songs of your choice from Google Play Music,” a pop-up many are seeing in their Android Pay app today says. Digging deeper into the terms and conditions, however, reveals the deets: 1st, 2nd, and 6th taps get you a free song on Google Play, and the 10th tap gets you a free Chromecast—that’s a $35 value. Your mileage may vary a little bit on this, though, as Google appears to be assigning these rewards to different tap numbers randomly. It might be free songs on the 2nd, 3rd, and 7th taps for you, for example.

We heard in October of last year that Google was planning to launch some loyalty and rewards programs for Android Pay, but this looks to be more of a tactic Google is using to get you to use mobile payments in the first place. You can read the full rewards program terms and details over at Google’s Android Pay website. Here’s a look at the in-app pop up (via Droid-life):

We’re almost positive that Google is about to make this program official and start pushing it on its social channels, so stay tuned for the full details. For now, though, it looks like it’s a matter of chance that the Tap 10 promotion appears in your Android Pay app. On one of my phones, it pops up fine, but another device doesn’t show the promotion at all. In all likelihood, all devices will begin seeing it soon.
