Those long commutes each morning can really get old. Toyota understands your pain, and that’s why it’s finally putting the adorable Kirobo Mini Robot on sale later this year. Designed to be your partner on the road, the communication robot brings companionship to suffering drivers with lengthy commutes. Kirobo sits in your cupholder or can be mounted on the dash, it has a built-in camera that will monitor who is speaking and will even work to identify your emotions. Just watch it at work:

The bad news? It’s only slated for release in Asia at this time with support for Japanese. No matter, it’s easy to imagine Kirobo developing quite the cult following around the world. When it hits dealer shelves later this year it will have a 39,800 Yen price tag or roughly $400.
Kirobo Mini is a miniature communication partner developed to provide companionship. It fits in the palm of the hand and is only 10cm high when seated. It turns its head toward the person speaking and engages in casual conversation*1 while moving its head and hands. Its compact size means it can be taken just about anywhere, helping it to fulfill its role as a cuddly companion always on hand for heart-touching communication.
