DODOcase says that its Leather CARDcase for iPhone is its lowest profile iPhone case available. After going hands on with it, it’s clear that this claim is true, but I think it’s also the slimmest iPhone case I’ve ever used from any company that can also stow cards on the back.
The minimal and clean design of the Leather CARDcase allows for an as close to a naked iPhone feel in-hand as possible while providing protection and wallet or business card storage. Read on for our full review.
I usually use some sort of wallet case day-to-day for my iPhone 7 Plus as I love the simplicity it provides along with some protection. However, around the house I often don’t use any case as I love the feel of an iPhone in its natural state.
This leads to popping cases on and off a couple of times a day, but the Leather CARDcase may have solved this for me. It’s so slim and sleek and has such a great feel in use that I’ve found myself leaving it on all the time.
Materials
The Leather CARDcase is made up of a black rubber shell with your choice of “premium” Chesnut Leather or Black Leather colors on the back.
I opted to review the Chesnut Leather which has a warm, rich look that I think will age very well. However, right out of the box the premium leather has a velvety soft feel.
If you’ve ever used and broken a hard-shell style case, you’ll appreciate the shatterproof nature of the Leather CARDcase’s rubber sides that wrap around your iPhone’s enclosure. The black rubber has a bit of a shiny finish that complements a Black or Jet Black iPhone very nicely.
Build
The excellent build quality that DODOcase has become known for is evident with the Leather CARDcase. From the precise stitching and finished edges of the leather to the iPhone side switch cutout, this case is thoughtfully well-made.
The CARDcase is designed to hold up to 4 cards as the leather will stretch to fit your preferred capacity. It’s also a sleek way to carry business cards.
A nice customization option that’s fun for yourself or for a gift idea is to add a gold monogram to the upper right corner for $9.95.
DODOcase includes a one-year warranty against defects in workmanship and materials on all its products as well as a 30-day return period (monogrammed products are not eligible returns or exchanges).
Use & Feel
In my time so far with the Leather CARDcase I’ve found it to be as good looking as it is functional. With the smooth rubber case and soft leather on the back it’s really comfortable to use.
As I mentioned earlier, I really appreciate the slim and minimal design that allows storage of my essential cards without adding bulk to my iPhone. In my experience my credit card and ID have stayed snug and secure in the card pocket. Something to keep in mind as DODOcase notes is that “once the leather has stretched, you won’t be able to drop down to carrying fewer cards, as the pocket will be too loose.”
I haven’t done any drop tests with the case, but I suspect the Leather CARDcase will provide good protection with the absorbent rubber whenever I do. This portion comes around the iPhone front just enough that when your device is placed face down it rests on the case and not the surface below.
Like most cases, the rubber bumper does soften the volume and sleep/wake button feel a little bit. However there is more of a noticeable click feeling with this case than most I’ve used. The cutout for the ring/silent side switch is generous and makes it easy to use.
Another aspect of the Leather CARDcase that I appreciate is that it’s very easy to put on and take off.
Conclusion
With great design and quality materials, the Leather CARDcase starting at $34.99 is a sleek and functional iPhone case that is easy to recommend.
