Sonic and PAC-MAN team up for epic iOS/Android crossover, available now

Bandai Namco and Sega are teaming for a new mobile cross-over promotion. Sonic the Hedgehog and PAC-MAN will be jumping in to each other’s games on iOS and Android. While bringing gaming’s fastest character together with one of its slowest might not seem like the most obvious move, if you ever wanted to zip around a Sonic-themed PAC-MAN maze with everyone’s favorite blue hedgehog, now’s your chance.

Not only will Sonic be a playable character in the PAC-MAN mobile app, we will also be getting PAC-MAN and Ms. PAC-MAN as playable runners in Sonic Dash. Both crossovers will also include special stages, collectibles and items.

Sonic’s nemesis, Dr. Eggman is conspiring with Bash the Ghost ”to exact revenge in Sonic Dash”. Players will be able to run as PAC-MAN or Ms. PAC-MAN to compete in 4 “alternating one-week special character events”. There will also be a new Bash the Ghost boss battle in Sonic Dash as well.

PAC-MAN and Sonic the Hedgehog have proven to be some of the most enduring heroes in video game history, and seeing each of these characters in these new universes helps remind us why we fell in love with them in the first place…We hope that Sonic fans and PAC-MAN fans alike will enjoy seeing their favorite characters take on new challenges and try their best, all for the sake of friendship.

It sounds like PAC-MAN and Ms. PAC-MAN will not be permanent additions to the game. Namco and Sega said that players who collect enough of PAC-MAN’s in-game items during the event will be able to permanently earn those characters inside of Sonic Dash. To be honest, the details are quite vague here, so it wouldn’t surprise us to see these options added as in-app purchases down the line.

On the flip side of things, Sonic is racing his way into the PAC-MAN mobile game “to save his kidnapped animal buddies”, as Sonic does. The “limited time event” will feature Sonic as a main character with specially designed mazes based on the famous Green Hill Zone from the original games. On top of that, the update brings six new stages and “free Sonic tournaments”.

But keep in mind, you have to take part in the crossover between today and March 20th, in order to unlock the special Sonic maze forever inside the PAC-MAN mobile game. After the 20th, you will be out of luck and the stage will no longer be available.

PAC-MAN and Sonic Dash are both available as free downloads on Android and iOS. It looks as though the new content has been added to both titles. However, Namco did point out that “crossover content will be included as part of a free, limited-time update to PAC-MAN starting today until Tuesday, March 20.”
