The monitor starts working right out of the box with its maximum heart-rate zone calculator. Based on your heart rate, this calculator automatically sets five training zones for you. With these targets set, you can venture into workouts such as running, biking, and swimming. An out-of-zone alarm keeps you in your target zone by sounding off whenever your heart rate falls above or below it. Along the way, the digital display shows other data such as continuous heart rate. The Road Trainer also records an array of other variables for postworkout review, such as average and peak heart rate, calories burned, and lap and split times.
