Grovemade makes some of our favorite Apple accessories and home goods from natural, sustainable materials. Based out of Portland, Oregon, its latest creation comes via a partnership with designer Joey Roth. Grovemade’s new Wood Speakers have a unique horn-shape design that are, of course, made from solid walnut and maple. The design fits in alongside the company’s gorgeous desk collection. But don’t be fooled, these speakers will look great alongside a turntable too.
Each side has a two-inch driver that is paired with a matching 2 x 25W amplifier. As we told you in our Small States feature, every Grovemade product is machined in-house from a solid chunk of hardwood. From there, the entire system is sanded by hand and prepped for final assembly. The speakers are supported by stainless steel stand that are wrapped in leather. Co-Founder Ken Tomita describes his latest release as so:
“The Speaker System is unlike anything we’ve ever done in the past and we achieved this through our collaboration with industrial designer Joey Roth and our advanced internal manufacturing and design capabilities. The result is a piece that is timeless, elegant and wholly unique in character capable of delivering an acoustically rich sound.”
The new Grovemade Speaker system is available for to purchase today with the walnut set running $599 and the maple listed at $499.

Grovemade Debuts Speaker System
PORTLAND, Ore. – (August 16, 2016) — Grovemade, a leading designer of handcrafted accessories, today introduced a Speaker System that optimizes sound through natural materials. Designed in collaboration with Portland-based industrial designer, Joey Roth, Grovemade weaved their individual aesthetic perspective and manufacturing capabilities with his unique approach to audio design. Coupled with a 2x25W amplifier, the back-loaded horn design reinforces the low frequencies, while the 2” full range driver delivers coherent mids and sparkling highs without the use of digital signal processing.
Each wooden speaker shell is precision machined from solid, domestically sourced walnut or maple hardwoods using Autodesk’s Fusion 360TM software in Grovemade’s Portland-based workshop. The parts are bonded together with high performance epoxy adhesive, hand formed through extensive sanding by Grovemade’s craftsmen, and two coats of natural oil are applied and buffed by hand to seal the wood. A stainless steel stand is then installed and covered with premium vegetable-tanned leather, covering any visible fasteners. The Speaker System works in unison with Grovemade’s existing Desk Collection and is compatible with computers, turntables, and other audio sources. Grovemade’s Speaker System retails for an introductory price of $599 for walnut and $499 for maple at www.grovemade.com.
