While the summer is usually quite slow for game releases, we did get a couple bangers last month like the new Deus Ex Mankind Divided, No Man’s Sky, Madden NFL 17 and more. This month, we are seeing loads of 2017 sports titles hit store shelves, along with the return to Rapture on current gen hardware, the next expansion for Destiny and more.
Head below for our top picks for the best console game releases of the month:
BioShock: The Collection – Sept 13th
BioShock is one of the most beloved franchises of the modern era, so it’s no surprise 2K is ensuring it lives on. Available for both Xbox One and PS4, the collection features all three games from the series (no multiplayer on 2 though), along with a host of hidden collectibles and unlockable special features. Whether you have played all these games or not, heading back to Rapture and Columbia on current gen hardware will certainly be a treat.
PS4/Xbox One: BioShock: The Collection: $60 or $48 for Prime members
NHL 17 – Sept 13th
NBA 2K17 – Sept 16th
FIFA 17 – Sept 27th
Well it is September, so we can expect a bunch of EA’s long running Sports franchises to make their yearly appearance including NHL 17 and FIFA 17. NBA 2K17 is also hitting this month with pre-orders already starting to arrive across the US.
NHL will host a series of new defensive features along with much better goalie gameplay. FIFA 17 has been overhauled to a certain degree with a new game engine, story mode, and esports integration.
NBA 2K17, on the other hand, is focusing on artifical intelligence, allowing for much more effective coaching/defensive strategies that will hopefully keep Curry, Durant and the rest of the Warriors from completely blowing you out. In other words, you should be able to rely on the computer controlled teammates much more than usual.
PS4/Xbox One: NHL 17: $60 or $48 for Prime members
PS4/Xbox One: NBA 2K17: $60 or $48 for Prime members
PS4/Xbox One: FIFA 17 : $60 or $48 for Prime members
Destiny: Rise of Iron – Sept 20th
While some of the hype surrounding Bungie’s hybrid shooter MMO may have died down since release, Rise of Iron will look to reinvigorate Guardians everywhere. While the 4th expansion pack might not be the full sequel we are all waiting on, it should be able to tie us over until that actually happens next year.
PS4/Xbox One: Destiny: Rise of Iron: $30 or via PS Store/Xbox Marketplace
Forza Horizon 3 – Sept 27th
Along with weekly competitions and prizes, Forza Horizon 3 will take place down in Australia. It will also feature the series’ largest open-world map and lineup of vehicles yet. Set for release on September 27th, you can expect 4-player co-op campaigns and cross platform functionality between Xbox One and PC versions.
PS4/Xbox One: Forza Horizon 3: $60 or $48 for Prime members
Some other notable release this month include Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 (Sept. 13th), the Dead Rising Triple Pack (Sept. 13th) which brings three of the older titles to current generation hardware, and XCOM 2 will finally release on consoles come September 27th.
