Apple’s iPhone 7/Plus can withstand water, but they are still just as prone to scratches and screen breakage as previous generations (even more so for Jet Black!). Its gorgeous, slim design makes it super tempting to use without a case, but we all know that’s just asking for trouble. To that end, you don’t have to cover your iPhone 7 in a bulky case.
We’ve sifted through nearly every iPhone 7 case currently on the market and plucked out the thinnest options. Here’s what we’ve found:
Before we go any further, let’s get the obvious out of the way. These ultra-thin cases are not designed to protect your iPhone from any real trauma. Instead, they offer scratch protection for when you slide your iPhone across a table or set it down on a rough surface.
You could achieve a similar level of protection with a skin or wrap, but those are a pain to install and cannot be easily reapplied. Even if you’re dead set on using your new iPhone without a case, you may want to settle for an ultra-thin option to help maintain its resale value (you know you’re going to want next year’s iPhone).
Another benefit of using a case is the added grip compared to the iPhone’s slick aluminum casing. This alone should prevent it slipping from your hand.
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to use an iPhone 6/s ultra-thin case with your new iPhone 7 due to design changes like the rear camera(s) and removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack. Just like other case styles, ultra-thin options are typically available in multiple colors, including clear and frost in case you’re looking to show off your iPhone’s Gold, Rose Gold, Silver, Black or Jet Black finish.
