Today we have smart home devices being created and coming from all different directions. Smart remotes from one company, and smart locks from another. And as you might assume, each has its own special smartphone app. Hooray, more apps!
I actually like to keep the minimum amount of apps necessary to be present on a single smartphone. At a certain point there just needs to be a single system to manage all of it. Smart assistants like Alexa are getting there, but don’t quite have it yet. Here we have a company on Kickstarter with a product called Nodez that seems to bring it all together.
Nodez is a bundle of smart home accessories that are all controlled by the same system, and by the same app. Similar to IFTTT (If This Then That), this product allows users to set triggers that cause something to happen. For example, when the time is 5AM, set the thermostat to 73 degrees, or if the front door is opened, activate the alarm and turn all lights off.
A path the Nodez team calls “The Easy Peasy Mode” allows users to choose a scenario from a ready made trigger/action list using the Nodez app. “The Creator Mode,” as you might guess, lets users create their own triggers and actions.
The Nodez family includes a Hub that facilitates all actions occurring on each accessory, or node. Setup is as simple as placing each node where they need to be and using the app to get them connected. Nodez also work with Alexa to create the ultimate home experience.
The Hub identifies other Nodez by an NFC tap. Once that’s done, it communicates and stores scenarios at all times. It has a backup battery as well, which is perfect in the case of a power outage or those classic router mishaps. In addition, a built-in secured Wi-Fi connection that has “military grade encryption” which prevents possible intruders from taking over.
The Nodez family is packed with features. In the case of carbon monoxide or smoke, Nodez Guard flashes its lights, sounds the alarm and sends alerts to the phones of anyone who needs to know. It also knows the difference between smoke and steam. Be sure to read about all other included Nodez on the product page.
Each node has a removable adhesive mounts to place vertically and the Nodez Guard has a screwable attachment to attach it to the wall. With the Bluetooth Low Energy mesh network, Nodez that are far away from the hub will be connected via jumping over the other nodez that are in range of the hub.
Nodez are not fully funded yet, but they are close to it and have 38 more days to go. You can grab an early bird deal for $196 for expected delivery this November. Includes Nodez Hub, Guard, Plug, Socket, Remote, Flood Sensor, OpenClose Sensor, Button, and Ambient Sensor.
