Huawei today announced that it is making its Band 2 Pro fitness tracker available for purchase in the United States. Priced at $69.99 and now available at Amazon, this wearable renews the brand’s focus on its in-house fitness vertical. With features like GPS and heart rate monitoring, Huawei clearly hopes that it can undercut similar offerings from Fitbit and the like that are more costly.
The Band 2 Pro stands out not as much for its list of features, but rather price point. Coming in at $70 puts Huawei’s latest squarely in competition with Fitbit’s Flex 2. Despite having more GPS capabilities, it’s lack of waterproofing doesn’t make it a clear winner over its natural competitor. At $10 less, the Flex 2 offers arguably more desirable features if you can get over it being smartphone-dependent for location services.
Huawei has stuffed in all of the other bells and whistles that we have come to expect from a 2017 fitness tracker release. That includes smartphone notifications and continuous heart rate monitoring. Huawei has also loaded up its TruSleep technology that monitors REM and other sleep data.
Users can expect the 105mAh battery to provide seven days of battery life, which is fairly impressive considering the built-in GPS. This is likely offset by the PMOLED grayscale display that doesn’t use nearly as much power in comparison to other trackers on the market. It connects via Bluetooth and is compatible with Android and iOS devices.
