One of the biggest release dates likely to be on any PS4 owners’ calendar has now been revealed. The long-awaited and much-anticipated God of War is finally getting an official launch date today alongside a brand new trailer, pre-order bonuses and the full reveal of the various collector’s editions…
In a post on the official Sony PlayStation Blog, God of War game director Cory Barlog brought with him loads of in-game screenshots, a new trailer and late April release date. Barlong started with “let me say that this is my favorite release day of my entire career. If I live to be 100, I do not think I will be able to top this release day.”
The 2018 reboot of the God of War series has changed directions in terms of lore and setting, but appears to maintain the brutal combat and visceral gameplay of its predecessors. Set many years after the older games, in world based in Norse mythology, Kratos will have is son Atreus alongside him this time in what is said to be around 25 to 35 hours of gameplay.
Feast your eyes on the new PS4 God of War Story Trailer:
From Santa Monica Studio and creative director Cory Barlog comes a new beginning for one of gaming’s most recognizable icons. Living as a man outside the shadow of the gods, Kratos must adapt to unfamiliar lands, unexpected threats, and a second chance at being a father. Together with his son Atreus, the pair will venture into the brutal Norse wilds and fight to fulfill a deeply personal quest.
Pre-ordering any version of the game (including those who have already done so) will net you three Legendary Shield Skins (seen above). If you pre-buy at GameStop you’ll also get the Luck of Ages XP Talisman which will bring you several in-game perks/buffs.
The $129.99 Collector’s Edition comes with a 9-inch statue of Kratos and Atreus, a cloth map, small Huldra Bros carvings, the SteelBook case and some in-game goodies.
There will also be the $149.99 Stone Mason’s Edition which includes everything in the Collector’s Edition along with “four very distinct, rare items directly from the game.” More specifically, Atreus’ wooden Horse and Troll carvings, the talking Mimir Head keychain and something known as the Stone Mason Ring, which has some connection to the story of the game.
