Tug is the MagSafe connector for the rest of your home

USB-C is great for our newest devices, but there’s just one thing we all miss about the old MacBooks. Okay..well, two if you count all the available ports we once had. What I’m talking about is that MagSafe connection that saved so many laptops from certain doom. You know, when you would accidentally yank the cord when you tripped over it. Unfortunately, Apple isn’t likely to bring back the MagSafe connection, but now you can outfit your house with similar type adapters right at the outlet.

The new adapters are called Tug and it effectively provide the same MagSafe functionality, but right at the socket connection at the wall. So let’s say you are walking by and happen to trip over a cord, instead of knocking over a lamp or yanking the socket apart sending sparks into the air, there is just a gentle disconnect at the base.

Perfect for those who may be a bit clumsy at times, it uses a strong magnetic connection. So lets say you need to quickly disconnect when vacuuming, you just “tug to unplug” safely and quickly without knocking over any end tables or lamps by yanking too hard. Plus it works with just about any modern cord and socket so you can use it all over your house. Even if you’re not the clumsy type it could be used for rambunctious pets or children to save priceless electronics from being knocked over.

You may want to think twice before outfitting your entire house with these as they do come at a price. For just one, you will have to shell out a little under $20 or about $50 for a 3-pack. Tug is a nice shout out to Apple’s MagSafe technology that so many of us still have fond memories of, but we aren’t sure that the adapters are even safe for 120V outlets. It’s also unclear if it has UL approval at this point. However, we may pick up a few ourselves for old times’ sake.
