Original Penguin has teamed up with New York-based indie band AJR for its new spring campaign. The band has been opening for artists like Ingrid Michaelson, Hoodie Allen and Andy Grammer and for the last year. More recently, AJR has been on a sold-out headliner tour, and will soon announce dates for their spring tour. The collection features polo shirts, sweatshirts, pullovers, sneakers, t-shirts, chinos and more. Keep scrolling to find out our top picks are from the collaboration.
Adam Met, one of the members of the band, explained that it’s their first time linking with a fashion brand. “Original Penguin has great style, great simplicity and a throwback vibe that mirrors our style as a band. I also like the juxtapositions in the line, like a Seventies print shirt with Nineties pants. It’s sort of our like our music, a post-modern mix.” This line has budget-friendly prices ranging from $35 to all the way up to $125.
The most inexpensive item is the Stay Weird Tee is for $35. The band wanted to express the importance of being yourself and this t-shirt is featured in the video multiple times. This t-shirt has a vintage appearance and can be worn with jeans or shorts alike.
Another great shirt from the collection is the Earl Polo 2.0 Shirt for $59. This shirt is a classic and is available in five different color options. It also has a white lining throughout the sleeves and color that makes it stand out.
For footwear, I love the Beckham Flyknit Sneaker for $80. It’s a great shoe for spring and summer to stay breathable and stylish. These sneakers also have a padded insole for all day comfort. They would also look great paired with the Relaxed Popover Hoodie and the P55 Straight Fit Chino Pants.
Lastly, the Mesh Tape Track Jacket is the perfect layering piece for spring. It’s made with breathable mesh to keep you cool as you move and it has two front zip pockets to keep your essentials secure. The sleeves are also finished with taping that makes it unique.
Pair this jacket with the Braiden Sneaker for a very on-trend and fashionable look. This sneaker is priced at $100 and has the same unique taping on it that the jacket has.
