Have you ever wondered why a product ends up being a best seller on Amazon? We have too. Best Sellers explores the good, bad, and strange best sellers on Amazon.
This week’s edition considers the GouQing Bluetooth Earbud, or what I like to call the ‘Fake AirPod’. While this product looks an awful lot like an oversized AirPod, it’s a far cry from Apple’s wireless earbuds.
The best wireless keyboard for the Mac?
Why it’s a best seller: Although it doesn’t appear to be a best seller any more, the GouQing Bluetooth Earbud was at one time selling well enough to chart on Amazon. The most obvious reason why this product was selling is because it looks like Apple’s own AirPods, at least at first glance.
This fake AirPod is no longer listed as a best seller, probably due to its poor ratings on Amazon. Once customers got it in hand, the product quickly lost momentum as the reviews came in.
Unfortunately, there are few redeeming factors for the GouQing Bluetooth Earbud. First and foremost, there’s only one of them, despite two being displayed on the package. Although the title says “Earbud” the marketing images are a bit misleading.
As you might expect, the sound quality is horrendous — even worse than many of the budget Bluetooth headphones available out there. There are no touch controls, no W1 chip for easy pairing with an iOS device (duh), and no charging case for easy recharging.
To charge the GouQing Bluetooth Earbud, you’ll need to utilize the included USB-A charging dongle, which features a barrel-style plug that sticks into the bottom of the earbuds.
Needless to say, this product was at one time a best seller, most likely due to it closely resembling a legit AirPod. However, after usage, it’s supremely evident that it’s nowhere near being close to the real thing, and is even worse than many budget offerings.
The good news is that there are plenty of products on Amazon that chart and actually deserve to do so. Stay tuned for a more positive product rundown on a future episode.
