We’ve been giving you plenty of LEGO Star Wars excitement of late, and now we’re switching it up to shine a light on an upcoming addition to the LEGO Technic lineup, the 42174 Emirates Team New Zealand AC75 Yacht, which has been revealed by the company in celebration of the Americas Cup. This kit will be sailing right alongside its LEGO Star Wars counterparts to its August release date, letting builders and fans alike re-create the AC75 Yacht, the current holder, in scaled Technic format. Get more details alongside a closer look with more images down below.
For those who may not know, The Americas Cup is the oldest international competition still operating in any sport, and its great to see LEGO explore more niche sports outside the usual norms of wheel-based vehicles. Preliminaries for the 2024 Cup will begin August 22, 2024 with the actual competition kicking off on October 12, so it’s quite fitting that the LEGO 42174 Emirates Team New Zealand AC75 Yacht will release on August 1 at $119.99 shipped, just in time to make great gifts or mementos for hardcore fans.
Stacking up to 962 pieces, this is quite a sizable build at 27 inches tall by 12.5 inches wide by 22 inches long. It’s a beautiful replica too, mimicking the real racing yacht’s efficient shape and smooth color pattern quite well, and I’m sure the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and sailing enthusiasts would agree.
And of course it comes with features to add that Technic touch to the finished model, with pneumatic functions that pump the hydrofoil arms up and down, plus controls to rotate the sails all supported by its own rigging system, true to its original’s design. It’s quite a stunning build set in these pictures, with the two especially gorgeous sails reaching high above the rest of the body, complete with authentic and accurate sponsors/branding.
