Lenovo’s lightweight Legion Go S handheld is now official

The highlight of Lenovo’s new Legion Go S handheld runs Valve’s SteamOS operating system, making it the first third-party PC gaming handheld to run the OS that popularized the Steam Deck. The SteamOS-powered version of the Legion Go S, however, will only debut in May, but there will be a variant with Windows 11 that’s coming out this month.

As far as the specifications are concerned, the $500 base variant of the Legion Go S with SteamOS is powered by AMD’s Ryzen Z1 Extreme CPU and comes with support for either an M.2 PCIe 2242 or 2280-size SSDs. The 8-inch LCD panel supports a 1,920 x 1,200 pixel resolution and it can go up to 120Hz refresh rate with VRR support. There will also be a $600 version of this handheld that’ll ship with the new AMD Ryzen Z2 Go processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD.

If you’d rather have a handheld with Windows instead of SteamOS, then you’ll also be able to buy a $730 version featuring a faster AMD Ryzen Z2 Go processor, 32GB of RAM, and 1TB SSD. This version will also be the first one to hit the shelves later this month, so be sure to keep an eye out. All three variants of the Legion Go S come with a set of programmable back paddles, the Xbox-style arrangement of sticks, face buttons, and a D-pad.

The new lightweight Legion Go S handheld doesn’t come with removable controllers, but the brand is also making Legion Go 2 that’ll ship sometime in 2025 carrying AMD’s new Z2 Extreme chip, an 8.8-inch 144Hz refresh rate OLED panel, and a big 74Wh battery. This one, just like the existing Legion Go, will come with detachable controllers, offering a similar experience with upgraded internals.
