Segway rides into CES 2025 on its first-ever Xyber and Xafari e-bikes that are open for preorders at $200 off

$200 off $2,400+

Segway has been a major player in the EV market for many years now, and after being teased at CES 2024, the micromobility brand is officially kicking off CES 2025 by rolling out its two new electric bikes. Now open for preorders, Segway’s Xyber and Xafari e-bikes will be the first venture into EVs outside its known e-scooter lineup, combining “cutting-edge technology with class-leading features, benefits, and performance.” From January 7 to February 2, you can get $200 off their price tags, just use the promo code EBIKE200 at checkout. Head below to learn more about what Segway has in store, including these e-bikes’ advanced systems, pricing, and expected release dates.

Segway ventures onto the e-bike scene at CES 2025

Before we get into the specifics of these two new e-bikes, which are remarkably different in their respective rights, let’s first go over their shared features, namely the brand’s Intelligent Ride System.

Intelligent Ride System features at a glance:

  • Airlock wireless proximity security
  • Apple Find My and Segway GPS
  • Segway IOT (internet of things)
  • Adaptive pedal assistance
  • Multi-color high-resolution smart TFT display
  • Bar-mounted scroll wheel for controls
  • Intelligent lighting system
  • Real-time health and fitness data syncing

The first of these advanced features is the airlock wireless proximity security that automatically engages the mechanical locks, shutting out access to the system for unauthorized users when ever you walk away from the e-bike. While you’re away, should someone tamper with your ride, the system will then sound an alarm, increasing in volume while sending real-time alerts to your phone until deactivated.

These e-bikes will also follow suit with many new models on the market with Apple Find My capabilities alongside Segway’s GPS dual-component tracking, which provides “high-frequency location refresh, allowing you to know where your bike is at all times.” The GPS works with the brand’s IOT (internet of things) for remote monitoring, control through the app and over-the-air updates. It also allows for bike/user cloud binding, as well as bike/battery cloud binding, which prevents unauthorized use of the EVs and/or battery removal.

While pedal assistance isn’t anything new (especially as this is the key mechanic of e-bikes), Segway is introducing a more intuitive system here than we’re used to seeing. The tech equipped on these e-bikes will automatically adjust power output in response to changes in slope angles, terrain, and the rider’s own efforts – all achieved thanks to an advanced gradient algorithm, internal gyroscope, and either the cadence sensor on the Xyber or the torque sensor on the Xafari.

There’s also a new multi-color, high resolution 2.4-inch smart TFT display that automatically adjusts brightness to ensure you’ll always be able to see the screen. What’s more exciting here is the inclusion of on-display navigation with real-time riding metrics – plus, it can connect to and control music on your phone as you ride, even going so far as to give you the choice to accept or reject calls.

Segway has mounted a scroll wheel to the handlebars on these models that controls the 12 different speed settings, the PAS levels, and also changes the screen on the display as needed. There are automatic headlights that sport high and low beam settings, with daylight running lights and taillights to boot.

“The best technology allows people to engage with the world more seamlessly. With the official launch of the Xyber and Xafari, we are using technology to redefine the electric bike experience. You don’t have to consider yourself a cyclist to feel the freedom and joy of two wheels. And with features like our Intelligent Ride System, we’re empowering both new riders and dyed-in-the-wool cyclists to simply ride better.”

Nick Howe, Segway’s head of e-bike

Segway Xyber e-bike defies categorization

Riding onto the scene as Segway’s mid-range, light EV that will get you where you want to go fast – the Xyber e-bike offers some ridiculous acceleration, with a twist of the throttle in Race Mode taking you from 0 to 20 MPH in just 2.7 seconds, with a top speed of 35 MPH. Equipped with a 175Nm, 6,000W direct-drive motor that is paired beside a 2,880Wh dual-battery configuration, it will carry riders up to 112 miles on a single 4-hour charge.

Despite its moto-inspired aesthetic and cast-aluminum, double cradle frame, this is still an e-bike, hence the existence of actual pedals with 12 levels of PAS support, as well as three modes of throttle-only performance (Eco, Sport, Race).

This model provides greater comfort and control through the coil-sprung, hydraulically damped front and rear suspension with a moto-style, inverted dual-crown fork at the front and a classic swing-arm design at the rear that features 110mm and 100mm of travel. Riding atop two massive 20-inch x 5-inch tires that have flat-resistant inserts, it also comes stocked with Tektro hydraulic disc brakes (4-piston front, 2-piston rear) for reliable stopping power.

One thing to note here is that Segway has designated the Xyber as an unclassified e-bike that was designed for maximized performance and not for on-road or non-permitted trails. For folks hoping to take rides on the road or down bike paths, there will be an additional road-legal, class 2 model that meets federal, state, and local regulations slated for introduction in Q2/Q3.

Segway Xafari provides endless fun and exploration

Segway boasts of the Xafari e-bike as a model “for everyone yet far from ordinary,” with a sleeker, more modern take on classic step-through frames. It arrives carrying the moniker of the brand’s all-terrain electric cruiser for all ages and skill levels.

This model sports a 80Nm motor that maxes out at 750W of power, working in conjunction with a removable 936Wh battery that carries riders up to 88 miles on a 6-hour charge, with class 1, 2, and 3 speeds accessible via the app. Acceleration is not quite as fast here, as it hits 0 to 20 MPH in 5.2 seconds, with the 12 levels of PAS supporting your venture with a torque sensor.

Comfort is one of the main focuses with this model, as its upright geometry encourages ergonomic positioning and bumpy paths are smoothed out with the 80mm front/70mm rear suspension. That’s not all, as it also comes with adjustable preload, compression damping and lock-out on the fork. It sits upon two 26-inch x 3-inch all-terrain tires to ensure the comfort (and fun) doesn’t have to end once the pavement does.

With a focus on providing versatile dimensions for riders ranging from 5-foot 1-inch to 6-foot 2 inches, it comes with an adjustable-height seat with quick-release, as well as an adjustable stem, handlebar, and display. Speaking of the display, you’ll be able to charge your phone as you ride via the 20W USB A/C port, with an included mountable easy-clamp phone holder (though you won’t necessarily need it thanks to the navigation through the display). There’s also a rear-mounted cargo rack for your hauling needs, with included in-frame hardshell and softshell bags for extra storage options as you ride.
