We first heard about the Planck SSD last month when it made an appearance at the CES 2025 show floor. It has officially hit Kickstarter now where you can back the project and be among the first ones to get your hands on what is said to be the “world’s smallest” portable SSD. You can now snag your unit of the tiny Planck SSD for just $125 by being one of the early backers and get it with a 34% discount. You can also bundle it with the PlanckBank USB-C hub for $167, which is 35% less than its $258 price right now. Head below for a closer look and more details.

Planck SSD debuts as the ‘world’s smallest’ phone-first model

The Planck SSD, according to the company, is the “world’s smallest phone-first” drive with up to 2TB storage. It comes in at just 10 grams and plugs directly into your iPhone’s USB-C port. You can, of course, use it with other devices like the iPad, MacBook, and more that have a Type-C port. This unit offers transfer speeds of up to 1050MB/s and supports recording ProRes at 4K/120 on iPhone 15 Pro and later. That makes it a great option to consider for folks who record a lot of videos on their phones either for casual or professional use.

The Planck SSD isn’t the first portable SSD of its kind, though the brand claims it’s the smallest one out there. This drive is also drop-poof, IP65 water-resistant, and tough enough to accompany you on all your travels. It’s compact enough to fit in your pocket, and you can also comfortably record videos from your phone with one of these plugged into the USB-C port. The Planck SSD will be available in 1TB and 2TB capacities to add enough storage for up to 70 minutes of ProRes 4K60 or 45 minutes of ProRes 4K120 footage.

You can head to the Planck Kickstarter page right here to reserve your unit. The 1TB model can be had for $125, while the 2TB variant will cost you $199. You are essentially looking at up to a 34% discount as an early adopter. The brand has also debuted PlanckBank Hub, which is a USB-C hub to enable dual SSD connectivity with two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports and a 4K HDMI output. It also supports PD charging up to 140W for smartphones, tablets, and laptops. This is, of course, a Kickstarter campaign, so we have no way of knowing if and when it will ship with any certainty. But we also have no good reason to believe it won’t. Be sure to check out the Kickstarter page for more details of the SSD and the USB-C hub.
