AMD debuts new Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT GPUs to go after NVIDIA’s mid-range lineup starting at a lower price point

AMD is going after NVIDIA’s 50-series lineup with its brand-new Radeon RX 9070 and RX 09070 XT graphics cards. These new models specifically target NVIDIA’s mid-range GPUs with a starting price of $549. That’ll make NVIDIA’s new GPUs, especially the RTX 5070 Ti, look quite a bit pricey when they land on the market next week, and they’re worth your attention if you’re in the market to buy a new graphics card for your PC. AMD’s new Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards are designed to offer “4K gaming at a 1440p price”. You’ll find more details of these graphics cards below, but AMD says the general performance of the vanilla RX 9070 makes it 38% faster than the 6800 XT and 26% faster than the RTX 3080. The more performant RX 9070 XT, on the other hand, is said to be 51% faster on average than a four-year-old RX 6900 XT at 4K and up to 26% faster than the RTX 3090. All these numbers show that they’re essentially great at handling 4K gaming with ease.

Each of these new graphics cards, as you can tell, have 16GB onboard memory, and they sport DisplayPort 2.1a and HDMI 2.1b ports. They’re also the first AMD GPUs to ship with the brand’s RDNA 4 architecture, and they also have support for FSR 4, which is AMD’s equivalent of NVIDIA’s DLSS upscaling.

As far as the pricing is concerned, AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 GPU will start at $549 whereas the RX 9070 XT will start at $599 when it lands at retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, and more. You will, of course, be looking at slightly more expensive variants from various partners depending on their designs, but there will be models starting down at these prices from next week onwards. Just to put things into perspective, NVIDIA’s new RTX 5070 is priced at $549 but the RTX 5070 Ti model is more expensive at $749. It remains to be seen just how good AMD’s new graphics cards really are compared to NVIDIA’s counterparts, but it’ll be interesting to see how these cards will shape the market going forward. All things considered, there are plenty of options out there right now for folks who don’t want to drop four figures on a graphics card for PC gaming in 2025.
