Alienware just unleashed new Aurora 16 and 16X gaming laptops with redesigned chassis starting at $1,150

After reintroducing the Area-51 desktop earlier this year at CES, Alienware has now unleashed a new range of gaming laptops under its Aurora brand. The latest Aurora 16 and 16X laptops are powered by Intel’s Raptor Lake Refresh/Arrow Lake CPUs and RTX 50-series GPUs, and they even have redesigned chassis with a more subtle design compared to what we’re typically used to seeing the brand. The new Aurora 16 and 16X gaming laptops are now up for grabs starting at $1,149.99 and 1,949.99 shipped, respectively, and you can learn more about them below.

Alienware’s new Aurora 16 and 16X gaming laptops are now available!

Unlike the Area-51 laptops that hit the scene earlier this year, the new Aurora 16 and 16X notebooks prioritize portability with sleek form factors and subtle, more toned down design. These new notebooks essentially replace Alienware’s M and X, and a bunch of its configs are now available to purchase with prices starting at $1,149.99 shipped.

As far as the specifications are concerned, both new laptops have 16-inch displays, though the more affordable Aurora 16 sports a 300-nit 120Hz 2560 x 1600 IPS panel, while the 16X has a 2560 x 1600 IPS display that gets up to 500 nits and a 240Hz refresh rate. Both notebooks also have similar ports – two USB-A, two USB-C, HDMI 2.1, Ethernet, a 3.5mm combo audio jack, and a proprietary power plug. One of the two USB-C ports on the pricier Aurora 16X is a faster Thunderbolt 4 and DisplayPort 2.1 compatible port instead of just USB 3.2 Gen 2. All the ports on both machines, however, are spread across the left and rear side of the laptop, leaving the right-hand side free for mouse movements.

Another reason why the regular Aurora 16 is more affordable is because it’s powered by Intel’s Raptor Lake Refresh chips, while the 16X notebooks are powered by the latest Arrow Lake chips with configs going up to the Core Ultra 9 275HX. You can spec them both with up to an RTX 5070 graphics card, though, so no differences there. Just like the Area-51 laptops, the new Aurora models also come with Alienware’s Cryo-Chamber cooler design with a small bump under the laptop with more airflow to the internal components.

The new Aurora 16 and 16X laptops, as you can tell, have a more subtle design, unlike some of the older models we’ve seen from the brand. These laptops even come with a “Stealth” button which you can use to switch the RGB lighting to a simpler white light and slow the fan down for less noise. A bunch of different configurations of these new laptops are now up for grabs, and you can check out the listings right here for more details.
