Over the weekend you might have a noticed our report on leaked details and rumors surrounding a new PlayStation handheld console. Leakers suggest Sony is hard at work on a new handheld successor to the PlayStation Portal, one that can play games natively and is potentially being targeted for release in 2027 alongside the PS6. That’s still a ways out if it is indeed true, and today we spotted a notable discount on the existing PlayStation Portal that is almost never on sale.

The official PlayStation Portal Remote Player is basically never on sale in new condition outside of YMMV offers, including both the standard and the newer Midnight Black model. Carrying a regular $199 list price, it has never seen more than a couple bucks taken off the tag at Amazon.

This, for the most part, leaves Best Buy’s “excellent” condition open-box listings as one of the only reputable chances to land a deal on the PS player. As of right now, Best Buy’s listing is currently sitting down at $135.99 shipped, saving $64 off the MSRP and delivering the lowest price we can find.

Best Buy says this unit works and looks like new while also be covered by its official Return & Exchange Promise:

This is an Open Box product, which means it’s been opened and returned by another customer. Each open box item is unique, and we offer different discounts based on the product’s condition. To see a product’s condition before purchasing, visit us in store.

The PlayStation Portal might not be the full-on handheld console many of us hoped it would be, and we will likely be waiting at least a couple years for a proper PSP successor, but it is the only game in town in many regards when it comes to the sort of feature set it provides:
