Heybike has launched an early access Back to School sale that will run through August 4 with up to $500 discounts across its e-bike lineup. One of the most popular models that makes a perfect companion for students on campus is the brand’s Mars 2.0 Fat-Tire Folding e-bike that is down at $999 shipped during this event and comes with a free front basket and rear large basket ($198 value). While it carries a $1,499 full price tag, discounts often see it down at this same rate during sales, with it only beaten out by the short-term $900 rate we saw from Best Buy earlier in the month and the $899 low that occasionally pops up in flash events. You’ll be saving $500 off the bike and $698 in total with the free gear, with the option to even upgrade to a more powerful motor for $100 more.

It may be a legacy model without the fancier features of the brand’s newer releases, but Heybike’s Mars 2.0 e-bike still brings reliability and affordability to your commute with a solid lineup of features – plus, things only improve after making the $100 upgrade. Everything starts with the standard 750W rear hub motor and 600Wh battery combo that gives you up to 45 miles of pedal-assisted commuting power and maxes out at 20 MPH speeds, unless you live where its 28 MPH speed is allowed. Of course, as I mentioned, there’s the option to upgrade to a 1000W motor that not only pushes its speed as high as 32 MPH, but also comes with hydraulic disc brakes replacing the standard’s mechanical disc brakes.

As the name suggests, this is a folding model that better allows for space-saving storage, which is a great asset for students in more compact living quarters. It also comes with 4-inch wide puncture-resistant tires (and fenders over each), a Shimano 7-speed derailleur, an integrated cargo rack (which one of the free baskets attaches to), an LED headlight and taillight, and an LED screen for all your performance data and setting adjustment needs.
