Sony just unleashed its first ever PlayStation gaming monitor with built-in DualSense controller charger

Alongside the new Japan-exclusive PS5 Digital Edition, Sony has introduced its first-ever PlayStation-branded gaming monitor during its State of Play Japan showcase. It’s a 27-inch QHD display with a blazing 240Hz refresh rate, and it also features several other notable highlights, which are detailed below. The monitor is slated to launch next year in both the U.S. and Japan, though Sony has yet to announce its official pricing.

New PlayStation monitor now official

The new PlayStation gaming monitor – not to be confused with Sony’s INZONE-branded models – comes in at 27 inches with a QHD (2560 x 1440) IPS panel. This display has support for up to 240Hz refresh rate, but it’ll top out at 120Hz when paired with PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles. It also includes Variable Refresh Rates (VRR) and High Dynamic Range (HDR) support with Auto HDR Tone Mapping for rich details.

One of the highlights of this monitor that makes it stand out from other similar-specced models is its built-in charging hook for DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers. It’s neatly hidden at the back of the display, and it folds down to provide a convenient resting spot for your controller. It even charges the gamepad while being stored, so it’s always powered up and ready to go.

As far as other specifications are concerned, the PlayStation gaming monitor has two HDMI 2.1 inputs and one DisplayPort 1.4 input for versatile connectivity, and it also has two USB-A ports and one USB-C port. It comes with a built-in speaker and 3.5mm audio output, and it’s also VESA compatible for mounting.

Sony, as previously mentioned, hasn’t revealed how much it will cost, but we know that it’ll be available sometime next year in the U.S. and Japan. It’ll be interesting to see how this will stack up against other options out there, including the ones from Sony’s own INZONE brand.
