Well, it wouldn’t be CES unless there were some new smart autonomous robot helpers on display, and CES 2026 is definitely underway, and there are certainly some new bots on the show floor this year. One of the more compelling models that is looking to help out around the house is LG’s new CLOiD – a robot that can do your laundry, make breakfast, and is designed to effectively double as a smart home butler.
As per usual with these sorts of robotic concepts we see every year, it’s never really clear whether or not they are ever going to be a real product or just big tech behemoths testing the waters and staying ahead of the development curve on what, I think, most of them feel will be a real product one day.
CLOiD is more or less in this category, delivering a (mostly) articulated robot with arms that can handle some of your chores at home, or at least that’s what LG says it can do anyway.
This adorable, or borderline creepy depending on who you ask, bot features a pair of articulated arms with what is being reported as seven degrees of motion – the torso can tilt to adjust its height, while the wheeled base equipped with autonomous navigation helps it move around your space.
Each arm has seven degrees of freedom, matching the mobility of a human arm. The shoulder, elbow and wrist allow forward, backward, rotational and lateral motion, while each hand includes five independently actuated fingers for fine manipulation. This configuration allows LG CLOiD to handle a wide range of household objects and operate in kitchens, laundry rooms and living areas.
CLOiD is part of the brand’s “Zero Labor Home” initiative, using “AI and vision-based technology to perform household tasks like cooking and laundry, connecting seamlessly with LG’s ThinQ ecosystem to automate home life.”
The little helper can apparently do the laundry for you, and even fold and stack it after the fact, can grab the milk from the fridge, and put some food in the oven:
In one scenario, the robot retrieves milk from a refrigerator and places a croissant into an oven to prepare breakfast. After household occupants leave, LG CLOiD initiates laundry cycles and folds and stacks garments after drying. These tasks display LG CLOiD’s ability to understand the user’s lifestyle and precise appliance control.
The head functions as a mobile AI home hub with a display, a speaker, cameras, various sensors and voice-based generative AI – “collectively, these elements allow the robot to communicate with humans through spoken language and facial expressions, learn the living environments and lifestyle patterns of its users and control connected home appliances based on its learnings.”
One day these things will be everywhere, right? For now they are mostly just fun concepts to explore for most of us, or extremely expensive toys for those with too much money to burn.
