JBL is well known for its Bluetooth speaker lineup as well as its larger party and PA-grade sound systems, but it is looking to combine the two with its BandBox releases. The lineup, which includes the more modestly-sized BandBox Solo and the larger and more feature-rich BandBox Trio, combines mic/instrument inputs with AI-powered stem splitters, amp emulation, and more with your usual Bluetooth speaker action. Both models are now available for purchase at Amazon and other major retailers.
The BandBox lineup is essentially a pair of Bluetooth speakers for singers and musicians, not unlike we have seen from brands like Positive Grid for years now.
The smaller BandBox Solo is very much what it sounds like – a typical Bluetooth speaker-sized option with a singular guitar/min input so you can listen to and jam along with your favorite tunes. The larger BandBox Trio ups the ante with a far more powerful output and additional instrument inputs for the rest of the band too. The Trio also sports a larger onboard LCD and additional hardware controls so you don’t have to reach for the companion app as often.
JBL BandBox Trio is an AI-powered, all-in-one practice amp and speaker that separates vocals and instruments in real time, cranks out powerful, full-range JBL sound, comes loaded with a four-channel mixer, effects for guitar, vocals, and more. Built for all kinds of musicians to plug in, jam out, and level up—anytime, anywhere.
Much like the other products in this space there some software features to go along with the experience. This includes everything from your standard issue amp emulation and FX (chorus, reverb, phaser, pitch shifters, and so on) through to an AI-stem splitter that will, in theory, allow users to remove select instruments or vocals from stereo tracks to take their place (to be fair these things have gotten pretty good over the the years, so this one probably works pretty well). Down the line, JBL will also be introducing a looper of sorts so you can multitrack your live guitar parts, vocal harmonies, or anything else really.
Features at a glance:
- Stem AI real-time vocal and instrument separation
- Legendary guitar amp and effects models
- Classic effects like phaser, chorus, tremelo, and reverb, plus vintage and modern amp models to match your mood
- Built-in practice tools: tuner, metronome
- Companion app: Tweak your volume, tone, EQ, and even change the pitch or key right from your phone. Build your dream pedal chain, swap amp models on the fly, and shape your effects in real time.
- Integrated LED pixel screen lights up when you need it—so dialing in tools, amp models, and effects is a breeze.
The new JBL BandBox Solo carries a $249 list price while the multi-input BandBox Trio comes in at $599.
