8BitDo debuts new Retro wireless Receiver for N64 alongside a new 2.4G controller, now available from $25

8BitDo has been on a roll with its lineup of retro-inspired controllers and accessories, and it has now introduced a pair of new options tailored for N64 fans. Leading the drop is the 8BitDo Retro Receiver, a BLE-powered wireless adapter for the N64 that works with a wide range of 8BitDo and official first-party controllers. Alongside it is the N64-style 8BitDo 64 2.4GHz controller, which ships with the new receiver, letting you wirelessly enjoy classic titles on original hardware. Both are now available via 8BitDo’s official Amazon storefront, with the Retro Receiver priced at $24.99 and the 64 controller at $39.99 shipped. Head below for a closer look and more details.

8BitDo N64 Retro Wireless Receiver now up for grabs

Perhaps the most interesting release from the brand in recent months is the new Retro Wireless Receiver that lets pair pretty much any 8BitDo or other first-party game controllers to the original N64. It supports everything from the Switch N64 Online controller, Switch Pro, and Wii U Pro controllers to Xbox One, Series, and Elite controllers, as well as PlayStation’s DualShock 4, DualSense, and DualSense Edge. Naturally, 8BitDo’s own controllers work seamlessly too.

The receiver also brings a few extra tricks, including vibration support and onboard memory for saved settings, with deeper customization available through 8BitDo’s Ultimate Software. Interestingly, it’s also compatible with 8BitDo’s mod kit that turns the original wired N64 controller into a wireless one.

As for the new N64 2.4G controller, it’s essentially a refreshed take on 8BitDo’s existing N64-style Bluetooth gamepad, redesigned to use a 2.4GHz connection and bundled with a Retro Wireless Receiver for full N64 compatibility. It features a modern design and ergonomics, while still adapting its layout to match the N64’s unique control scheme. You get oversized A and B buttons positioned where the right thumbstick typically sits, along with a D-pad placed where standard ABXY buttons would normally be. Internally, it’s a fairly modern controller as well, equipped with a Hall-effect joystick for improved durability and precision. It also supports Windows when used via a wired connection.

The 8BitDo Retro Receiver, as previously mentioned, is now up for grabs for $24.99 shipped. Alternatively, you can also grab the new 2.4G N64 controller with the new receiver included for $39.99 shipped.
