Sony’s latest Sony WH-1000XM6 over-ear wireless headphones were easily some of the most popular releases in the product category last year among 9to5 readers. They are also quite an expensive proposition with a $459 list price and the previous-generation is still quite a compelling lower-cost option that might be worth a look for some folks while they are down at $248 – that’s $152 off the list price.
Amazon is now offering the Sony WH-1000XM5 Noise Canceling Headphones in all four colors down at $248 shipped. This set still carries a $400 list price and is now nearly 40% off for the lowest price we can find in brand new condition.
You will also find them on sale directly on the Sony electronics site, but Amazon is offering them for $2 less on all colors.
I came away quite impressed with the newer WH-1000XM6 last year after review and they have remained in regular rotation around here ever since. They sound great, the ANC is a touch better than the XM5 set, and I actually find them quite comfortable to wear.
The thing is, the latest XM6 is a far more pricey endeavor, coming in at $458 on Amazon right now. There are some notable enhancements on them for sure, but they sound early the same to my ears as far as the actual audio reproduction goes, and I’m not sure they are $210 better than the XM5 you can score right now for a whole lot less.
