Reports confirm a new ‘Metal Gear Solid’ movie in the works. After the high-profile and generally well-received Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake (MGS Delta) released last summer, Snake appears to be heading to silver screen.
The post-Kojima era Metal Gear projects have been a bit disheartening for me as a long-time uber fan of the series since before it ever made into 3D on PS1. But despite the falling out, and for that very same reason, I was quite excited about the MGS 3 remake and, providing it is faithful to the original Kojima vision and the characters I grew up with, I am for a proper film adaption as well.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Zach Lipovsky And Adam B. Stein of Final Destination Bloodlines fame have been tapped to take on the project as part of a “new first-look producing deal” for Sony.
This will be the first proper Metal Gear Solid movie by the sounds of it, but there is still very little details on the project considering how early in the process it is. The report says Avi Arad and Ari Arad are producing and that the deal also includes the directing duo taking on a slate of other projects and IP of the “wildly fun, commercial, character-driven, genre-bending” type.
The director duo had this to say about the MGS project:
As long term fans of the game, we are thrilled and honored to bring Hideo Kojima’s iconic characters and unforgettable world to life.
