Pioneer launches ‘world’s first’ Dolby Atmos spatial audio in-dash CarPlay receiver, now available

Earlier this year at CES Pioneer unveiled its all-new SPHERA in-dash CarPlay receiver and multimedia system. Fast forward to spring 2026 and the new premium in-car entertainment and connectivity system is now available for purchase

There are plenty of in-dash receivers like this out there for folks looking to add CarPlay action to their ride, or just upgrade in the in-dash entertainment setup, but the new Pioneer Sphera has quite a lot going for it.

Firstly, Pioneer says SPHERA is the world’s first aftermarket spatial audio in-dash receiver by way of its Dolby Atmos via Apple CarPlay. Up until this point in-vehicle Dolby Atmos has only really been available in vehicles with a Dolby Atmos-enabled sound system already in place, but the aftermarket SPHERA delivers this action to “millions of existing vehicles.”

Just take note, the “Dolby Atmos only works with wired or wireless Apple CarPlay using source material from Apple Music, Audible, Apple Music Classical, and Wondery apps.”

Features at a glance:

  • Decodes Dolby Atmos spatial audio source material from several apps to create enveloping and realistic sound
  • Pioneer’s exclusive autotuning system calibrates the interior of your vehicle and applies processed signal to your speakers
  • 10.1″ floating touchscreen display
  • Compatible with wired and wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™
  • Stereo Spatial Sound, this receiver’s simulated spatial audio effect, creates realistic sound staging for music not encoded with Dolby Atmos — it can be switched on or off
  • Luminous navigation bar lights indicate upcoming turns when using your navigation apps
  • Shortcut Commands allow customizable split-screen keys, such as easy Listening Position toggle, EQ adjustment, Stereo Spatial Surround, and radio presets
  • Add satellite radio with an optional SiriusXM satellite radio tuner (subscription required)
  • Compatible with iDatalink Maestro interfaces to help retain more factory features (and possibly add more) in select vehicles

The unit comes with the touchscreen monitor (rear cover pre-installed), the wiring harness, a 58-inch USB extension cable, the BT microphone and calibration mics both with the required cables, a GPS antenna, and a series of adhesives and screws for installation. A complete list awaits right here.

The new Pioneer SPHERA DMH-WT8000NEX Digital multimedia receiver carries a $1,299.99 list price and is now available for purchase at Crutchfield.

You’ll also want to take note of the installation accessory deals Crutchfield is offering right now. Head over the listing page and click on the “Save on the installation gear you’ll need” link – this is where you can score up to $50 off any add-ons you may or may not need.
