Best Buy has now announced some changes to its growing paid My Best Buy membership tiers, including a new reward points system for subscribers and a notable price reduction on what was already the most affordable My Best Buy Plus plan.
Perhaps the biggest news from today’s announcement is the new pricing structure on the paid My Best Buy plans.
A standard My Best Buy membership is still entirely FREE. It delivers FREE standard shipping on purchases and doesn’t require anything more than a quick sign up using your email address.
The paid memberships – My Best Buy Plus and Total – net you a host of additional perks in the form of FREE 2-day shipping, exclusive membership pricing and deals, exclusive access to sale events, and extended return windows on “most products.”
Typically $50 per year, My Best Buy Plus is the more popular and affordable of the two, and it appears to be getting a permanent price drop down to $29.99. Today’s press release makes it sound as though this isn’t going live until June 4, but it appears to already be available down at the new discounted rate on the official My Best Buy Plus sign up page.
Plus is Best Buy’s membership for members who want value and access. For $29.99/year4, Plus members receive:
- 1% back in rewards on eligible purchases (6% with the My Best Buy Credit Card).
- Free two-day shipping.
- Exclusive member prices, deals and offers.
- Exclusive access to sales, events and products.
- Extended 60-day return window on most products.
However, according to today’s announcement it looks as though the top tier My Best Buy Total is actually going up. At the time of writing 1-year of Total costs $179.99 per year, but Best Buy says it will be $199.99 soon – it appears as though this will take place in June 4, but it’s had to say for sure at the moment.
For $199.99/year, Total includes everything you get with Plus, as well as:
- Product protection plans, including AppleCare+.
- Free in-store and remote computer and tablet services.
- 24/7 tech support.
- VIP member support and priority access to Best Buy’s expert services.
- 20% off repairs.8
And here are the details we have thus far on the new reward points system for My Best Buy Plus and Total members:
- Starting June 4: My Best Buy Plus and My Best Buy Total members will earn 1% back in rewards on eligible purchases, in addition to their existing benefits
- Earn more points: Plus and Total members with a My Best Buy Credit Card can earn 6% back in rewards
- More than 80%: Customers that said they want to earn points on purchases when they shop at Best Buy
- Track rewards: Plus and Total members can track their rewards in a digital membership hub on BestBuy.com and the Best Buy app
