Microsoft’s upcoming compact cloud gaming controller with Wi-Fi 6 shows up in new leak

Microsoft has been making headlines lately with a series of notable announcements and updates across both its software and hardware lineup. Now, a new report has surfaced online revealing what is said to be the company’s upcoming cloud gaming controller. Images shared by Tecnoblog appear to show the unannounced controller in both black and white finishes, offering an early look at its design and layout. Head below for a closer look at the leaked photos and more details on the reported controller.

The leaked images appear to show a controller that looks like a more compact version of the Xbox Series X|S gamepad, featuring a rectangular body with shorter grips while still retaining the familiar Xbox layout. You still get the standard controls here, including dual thumbsticks, a D-pad, face buttons, bumpers, triggers, the Xbox button, and other usual inputs. One of the standout features of this reported controller is said to be direct Wi-Fi connectivity to Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming service, which could potentially offer lower latency compared to traditional Bluetooth or 2.4GHz wireless connections. That said, the controller is also expected to support Bluetooth 5.3 as well as 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless connectivity for use with other devices.

The report also claims the controller packs a built-in 500mAh battery, marking a shift away from the replaceable AA batteries typically found in Xbox controllers. Internally, it’s said to run on a Realtek chipset featuring a dual-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor. At the moment, there’s very little information available regarding pricing or release timelines, so it remains to be seen when the controller will officially hit the market or how it will stack up against competing gaming controllers. We’ll be keeping a close eye out for additional details and updates as they surface, so stay tuned for more information once Microsoft officially reveals the device.
