Amazon has unleashed a fresh batch of Alexa devices today, and one of the more interesting additions is the new Echo Time. It’s an all-new Alexa+ smart alarm clock built specifically for the nightstand, with a compact spherical design and a 3.2-inch circular touchscreen that can be customized with hundreds of different clock faces. You can choose from analog and digital styles, seasonal themes, sports teams, and characters from franchises like Harry Potter, Batman, Superman, and more. Head below for a closer look and more details.
New Amazon Echo Time now up for grabs
One of the more interesting tricks of the Echo Time is the optional Smart Alarm, which uses Amazon’s Omnisense sensor platform to get a better read on your sleep without requiring a wearable. It looks at things like presence, room temperature, proximity, and even breathing patterns detected through ultrasound, then uses that data to figure out when you’re in a lighter stage of sleep. Instead of jolting you awake at one exact time, it can sound the alarm within a 10- to 60-minute window before your set time when it thinks waking up will feel easier. The display can also gradually brighten like a sunrise before the alarm goes off, while Night Mode dims the screen and cuts down on blue light. Amazon says Echo Time has also earned the National Sleep Foundation’s SleepMark certification.
Amazon also has a separate Kids Echo Time for the young ones in your home, with Kids+ support built in for a more child-friendly experience. Kids can use it to set alarms, check the weather, and access bedtime content through Sleep Studio from Calm, Headspace, Moshi, and more. Parents can also manage sleep schedules and other settings through the Amazon Parent Dashboard, giving them a bit more control over how the device is used.
The standard Echo Time is available now for $199.99 shipped in Graphite, Glacier White, and Coral Pink, while a matching adjustable stand costs another $39.99. The Kids version, on the other hand, starts at $209.99 shipped in Galactic Grape and Cosmic Lime and includes one year of Kids+. Some features require Alexa+, which Amazon includes with a Prime membership.
