I had never used a Flexispot chair up until now, so when the opportunity popped up to score the brand’s flagship C7 model for review, I sat down on it immediately. And my back is very glad I did. Hands-on with the Flexispot C7 office chair
The Flexispot C7 office chair comes in four colorways (more on this below): All Black, Black+Grey, White+Black, and White+Grey. You can also choose to score it with the modular footrest attachment or not.
It carries a $710 MSRP, but you can land one right starting from $349.99 shipped – that’s up to $360 off and one of the lowest prices we have ever tracked. There are certainly more affordable Flexispot chairs out there – you’ll find some on sale as low as $90 right now – but you might want to give the rest of this Tested review a closer look if you’re looking for a more premium solution.
9to5Toys’ Take
I have admittedly been using an office chair I couldn’t even tell you the name of for the better part of a decade. It is ummm….terrible. And by is, I mean was, because that sucker is long gone now in favor of what I can best describe as my new writing throne.
I have tested out some office-style chairs in the $150 – $250 range over the years, but nothing I would immediately recomend to folks
Putting it together
So you do have to put this thing together, as expected when buying an office chair online. It lands wrapped up inside of relatively large box in about 10 separate pieces (if you count the wheels). Putting it together took less than 15 minutes following the simple instructions and using the included hex keys for the screws.
Once I put my heart and soul into tightening the screws as much as I possibly could with the hex key, the chair was squeaky when sitting on it…this is bad, unacceptable, and temporary disheartening. However, I decided to pull out the trusty power drill and give those screws some work, and it immediately fixed the issue. The chair is now completely silent and functioning just as you would hope – just be very prepared to use a power drill or a powered screwdriver to make it happen. This could very well be a me thing, but certainly something to consider.
Take a seat
The Flexispot C7 – the model without the footrest in this case (they are otherwise the same) – has been a complete joy to spend 10+ hours a day on. Yes, it took me a day or so to get used the fact that it sort of forced me to sit the way I ought to have been sitting for way to long now, but both my back and overall productivity are far better off. It even makes me type faster and more accurately – I guess this is all obvious to folks that already upgraded to a proper ergonomic chair, but I was skeptical.
There’s just enough adjustability on the C7 for me to get it just right without having 8 million tiny little adjustments to fiddle with too. The arms raise up and down and the arm rests from side to side, you can engage the recline action when you’re ready to put your feet up, and you can even tilt the seat up and down or adjust the overall height easily. Add in the ability to fix the lumbar support pad in position or not (that sport of bump on the backrest that cushions your lower torso) and the headrest that can be flipped up and down, and you’re looking at quite a versatile sitting experience that seems to work nicely for me and the few friends I had give it go.
I opted to check out the “All Black” cushioned seat bottom, mostly because I feel like most folks would do the same, and it both works wonderfully and is quite comfortable. The only really issue I have with it, and in many ways the entire chair, is the color here. I for some reason thought I was getting a black chair with a black cushion, when in fact it’s really kind of not. The listing says “All Black” on the official site, but it’s really like a black chair with a black cushion and a dark charcoal mesh back rest. I definitely like the look of it, and it has grown on me – I might even have purchased this style if I had the choice – but consider yourself warned…it’s not exactly “All Black.”
When it comes down to it, after testing this chair out day in and day out for a couple weeks – I’m writing this very article in it right now, I can confidently say this thing is a winner. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending it to just about anyone that spends time at a desk, be it for work or pleasure, and I am utterly grateful to be sitting in it right now.
The $710 price tag however, isn’t exactly accessible, but I might still consider paying that price after getting to test it out. Fortunately for folks that don’t have that luxury, Flexispot is incredibly generous with its sale pricing and you can land one right now from $349.99 shipped. That’s still not exactly cheap or anything, but we are talking about $330 in savings for a chair I would have spent a whole lot more on now that I know how good it is.
